  • Winter Maintenance Swim Coaches

    Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 (October 5 to mid-April)

    The Cowichan Valley Breakers Swim Club is currently accepting applications for Swim Coach positions for our 2025–2026 winter maintenance season.

    The Cowichan Valley Breakers Swim Club is a non-profit, community-based swim team located in Duncan, BC. Our competitive season runs May through August as part of the BC Summer Swim Association, with a winter maintenance program from October through April.

    We train at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre and welcome swimmers aged 5–18, ranging from beginners to seasoned athletes. The Breakers are supported by a dedicated volunteer network of parents, swimmers, and an Executive Board.

    We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated coaches who are passionate about swimming and eager to foster a supportive, fun, and competitive environment.

    Position Details

    • Part-time: approximately 15 hours per week

    • Schedule: Practices are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday mornings. If you’re only available for part of this schedule, we’d still love to hear from you.

    • Term: October 5, 2025 – mid-April 2026

    • Location: Cowichan Aquatic Centre, Duncan, BC

    • Compensation: Competitive hourly wage, based on experience, training, and qualifications

    Responsibilities

    • Plan, organize, and deliver effective training sessions (in-pool and dryland activation).

    • Lead assigned swim groups and support individual swimmer development.

    • Set individual goals with swimmers and provide regular feedback.

    • Provide written report cards for each swimmer, once in December and once in April.

    • Attend all scheduled practices, mini-meets, and season events.

    • Support team events, including fundraising and social activities.

    • Communicate regularly with the coaching committee, Executive Board, swimmers, and parents.

    • Promote a positive, team-focused culture of commitment, competition, and fun.

    • Maintain a clean and organized pool deck, coach’s room, and equipment.

    • Provide an end-of-season report to the CVB Executive Board.

    Qualifications

    • Previous experience coaching competitive swimming (or equivalent relevant experience) is an asset, but not required.

    • Background as a competitive swimmer is considered an asset.

    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work collaboratively within a coaching team.

    • Must provide a current criminal record check prior to employment.

    • Reliable transportation to and from practices.
