Cowichan Valley Breakers Coaching Opportunities
The Cowichan Valley Breakers are always interested in connecting with enthusiastic, motivated individuals who are passionate about swimming and helping young athletes reach their potential.
Breakers coaches play an important role in developing swimmers’ skills, building confidence, and creating a positive team environment where athletes can learn, compete, and have fun. Whether you are an experienced coach, a former competitive swimmer, or someone looking to begin a coaching career, we would love to hear from you.
A little bit about us: The Cowichan Valley Breakers is a non-profit, community-based swim club located in Duncan, BC. Our program welcomes swimmers aged 5–18 and offers both competitive and developmental opportunities throughout the year. Our competitive summer season runs from May–August through the BC Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA), followed by our fall and winter maintenance program from late September to mid-April.

Late September 2026 to mid-April 2027
The Cowichan Valley Breakers Swim Club is currently accepting applications for part-time Swim Coach positions for our 2026–2027 Fall & Winter Maintenance Program.
Our Fall & Winter Maintenance Program focuses on developing swimming skills, fitness, confidence, and teamwork while preparing athletes for the upcoming summer season. We are looking for enthusiastic, dependable coaches who are passionate about working with young athletes and helping swimmers achieve their individual goals.
Position Details
Position: Part-Time Swim Coach
Term: Late September 2026 – Mid-April 2027 (exact dates confirmed in early September)
Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week
Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday mornings
Location: Cowichan Aquatic Centre, Duncan, BC
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage based on experience, training, and qualifications
Reports To: Executive Board and/or Coaching Committee

Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and deliver engaging, age-appropriate swim practices and dryland activation sessions.
Coach assigned training groups while supporting the individual development of each swimmer.
Set goals with swimmers and provide regular encouragement and constructive feedback.
Complete written progress reports for each swimmer twice during the maintenance season (December and April).
Attend all assigned practices, mini-meets, team events, and coaches' meetings.
Participate in club activities, including fundraising initiatives and social events, as required.
Communicate professionally and effectively with swimmers, parents, fellow coaches, and the Executive Board.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, commitment, personal growth, and enjoyment of the sport.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe coaching environment, including the pool deck, coach's room, and equipment.
Assist with season planning and provide an end-of-season report to the Executive Board.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess many of the following qualifications:
Previous coaching experience in competitive swimming or a related sport is an asset, but not required.
Competitive swimming experience is considered an asset.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a coaching team.
A positive attitude and enthusiasm for mentoring young athletes.
Reliable transportation to and from practices.
Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check prior to employment.
Coaching certifications, First Aid/CPR certification, and NCCP training are considered assets. The Breakers are committed to supporting coach development and encourage applications from individuals interested in growing their coaching experience.
