Swimmers’ Code of Conduct

As a member of the Cowichan Valley Breakers, swimmers are expected to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and good sportsmanship at all times. This includes:

  1. Teammates: Encourage and support all teammates and competitors at practices and swim meets. Put-downs and inappropriate language or behaviour will not be tolerated.

  2. Facility & Equipment:  Treat all areas and equipment with care. Swimmers are responsible for their use of the pool facility and equipment and will be held accountable for any misuse or damage.

  3. Coaches: Show respect before, during, and after practices. Arguing or talking back will not be tolerated. Concerns may be brought to the coaching staff after practice in a respectful manner.

  4. Behaviour: Accept responsibility for your actions and choices, in and out of the pool.

  5. Pool Expectations: If a swimmer chooses not to enter the water during practice or exits early, they will be asked to sit on the bleachers so coaches can focus on those in the pool. Parents: if you know your swimmer may have difficulty participating, please remain at the pool to provide support if needed. Approved spectator seating is located in the chairs facing the wave pool.

  6. Officials: Always use respectful language and behaviour. Officials’ judgments are final, and any concerns or protests are to be addressed by the coaching staff. Polite manners are expected at marshalling and towards all deck officials.

Parents’ Code of Conduct

Parents are an important part of the Cowichan Valley Breakers community. By setting a positive example and supporting swimmers, coaches, and volunteers, parents help create an encouraging and respectful environment for all.

  1.   Remember that your child participates in club activities for their own enjoyment.

  2. Do not pressure or force your child to practice or attend competitions if they are not ready or willing.

  3. Never yell at or ridicule any child at any time, whether at practice or competition.

  4. Respect and support all coaches and volunteers who give their time to the club.

  5. Encourage your child to compete by the rules and resolve conflict without hostility or violence.

  6. Teach your child that doing their best is more important than winning. Praise effort, fair play, and good sportsmanship.

  7. Model positive behaviour. Cheer for all competitors and celebrate great performances, regardless of team.

  8. Respect competition officials, who are volunteers working hard to ensure a fair and positive experience.

  9. Maintain self-control and always contribute to a positive, supportive atmosphere.

Note on Enforcement

The Cowichan Valley Breakers expect all members to follow this Code of Conduct. Failure to do so may result in steps being taken by the Board of Directors in consultation with coaches. Actions will be appropriate to the situation and guided by our club’s policies.
