How to Prepare
So, you want to go to a Swim Meet?
First you need to sign up (see how to register for a swim meet)!
You want to be prepared!
- For a long day
- For outdoor meet be ready for the weather
- Be ready for tears as some strokes can be quite technical and result in some disqualifications for new swimmers, try to prepare your swimmer for this and offer plenty of encouragement
- Be prepared to help out as there are plenty of jobs needing help (see general swim meet info)
- Make sure you have a pen to write the event numbers on your swimmers hand, so they get to marshalling on time.
- Make sure everything brought to the meet is labeled with your name
Items needed:
- Goggles
- A swim suit (preferably a Breakers Swim Suit)
- Yellow Breakers Swim Cap (so your coach can spot you quickly) you may want to purchase an extra incase of breakage at a meet
- Sunscreen (for outdoor meets)
- T-shirt (to keep your muscles warm between events)
- Slip on shoes (for on deck)
- Towels (one for each event entered)
- Sleeping bag (to relax on and keep warm between events)
- Games or books (to entertain between events)
- Healthy food snacks, lunch and drinking water
Don’t forget the camera!
You will need to buy a heat sheet. These usually cost around $4.00. Bring a highlighter to highlight your swimmers events, and a pen to write the event numbers on your swimmers hand, to keep them on track.
Also remember that the host Clubs are ALWAYS in need of parent helpers at the meet, for timing, lane judging, etc. Please step up and do your part in summer swimming! (see general information about swim meets) |
